What Will Monarchs Eat?

Austin N, Keith S, Alyssa S, Caleb W, Johnnie H, Brandon B

While watching the adult Monarchs that we had raised from eggs, we wondered what we could feed them besides the watermelon slices we had been putting on the bottom of their cage. We decided to offer them grapes, oranges, milk, red koolaid, green pepper, and sugar water one at a time for 1/2 day each time. Our results showed that our Monarchs preferred the sweet choices and visited the watermelon more often than any of the other foods. We have created a large exhibit to help communicate our research.
