“I’m a Survivor” by Asclepias suriaca: Does damage affect milkweed growth?

Ten common milkweed plants were selected to be damaged in various ways. We wanted to find out how common milkweed may respond to damage caused by human activities, in particular. The growth and health of these plants were monitored over a 10-week period.

The Urban 4-H club at Phyllis Wheatley Community Center learned a lot about urban birding this year. We began by measuring and observing birds' feeding behavior in North Minneapolis and learned about the many factors that effect birds in this area. Our results were surprising, but were also very reflective of North Minneapolis birds' habitat. By working through the scientific process together, we learned more about our community and about the effect that people have on nature.
