Cricket housing preferences

While we were observing the crickets, we wondered if they would have housing preference, specifically if they would like houses with one or two doors better. We all thought that given a choice, the crickets would prefer houses with two doors, since that would give them an escape door if a predator arrived. We had two cages of crickets, and in each cage we placed both a house with one door, and a house with two doors. We then monitored them and randomly counted how many crickets were in each house over a five-day period. The crickets seemed to like the two door houses a little better than the one door houses, but the results were pretty close. We charted and graphed our findings.

Mantid vision: Is it important in catching prey?

We wanted to know the importance of a mantids' ability to see its' prey in order to catch and eat it. In our experiment, we wanted to determine if they could find their prey better when they could see it. We tested this by placing 5 mantids in a dark box with their food, and placing 5 different mantids outside the box with their food. After 24 hours, we counted which mantids had caught and eaten their prey and recorded the results. We made graphs to represent our findings. We discovered that the mantids outside the box were able to find their prey much better than those in the box. Overall, we thought that the findings showed mantids' sense of sight to very important in helping it catch its' prey.
