"Pet" Monarchs

Isaac P, Brendin R

By Brendin and Isaac We tried to find out what the complete lifespan of a monarch caterpillar to butterfly if kept as a “pet”. We found that if frequently fed the caterpillar has a good chance of making it through the chrysalis stage of life. If fed whenever milkweed is needed it doesn’t have much of a chance of surviving through the chrysalis stage. It may be hard to keep in living climates though. We measured each caterpillar by instar.
