Monarch Butterflies' Favorite Foods

Mara T

Butterflies like many foods. So, we wanted to find out what food butterflies prefer. We set up food for them in flight cages and recorded how long and how many times they went to each food. The butterflies liked the sugar water hanging on the top of the flight cage. They also seemed to like the mangoes, watermelon, and grapefruit.

Will butterflies land on us?

Alana L

Over the summer a few kids in our class went to butterfly houses at the fair and got butterflies to land on them. That got us thinking, "What do we need to do to get butterflies to land on us?" We had a large flight cage and tested the butterflies by wearing flowers or milkweed, or standing still. In our experiment we learned that butterflies will not land on us unless we have flowers in our hair or sugar water on our hands.
